About HillSide

Step into a new life with Hillside….

This section of the website seeks to provide information regarding the aim of the church, our beliefs at Hillside Methodist, the 8 G’s of the Christian life and our Hillside values.

The aim of God’s church

We believe the church belongs to God and that the primary aim of the church is to do God’s will. We are to therefore build and grow a Christian community where non-religious and nominally religious people are becoming deeply committed Christians and seek to care for the larger community the way Christ would.

Our beliefs

At Hillside Methodist Community Church we are Christians who are excited to be part of the Methodist Church of Southern Africa.

Methodists hold to the historic doctrines of the Christian faith. We value the intellect, modern science and contextual experience, while at the same time looking to the Bible as the authoritative guide for faith and practice.

Methodists have a passionate faith with strong convictions, but we also recognize that the world is not always black and white. We are willing to ask questions, to wrestle with difficult issues, and endeavour to do so with grace and compassion.

We attempt to live out our faith in concrete ways in the world by living the following:

Living our lives to reflect that Jesus loves us all and welcomes everybody, he also never leaves us as we are, but encourages us to grow as human beings.

Living and knowing that Jesus love is available to you and me today, now.

Living and knowing that forgiveness can be received by Jesus death on the cross.

Living a faith that is relevant and real with energy and enthusiasm. We seek to be contextual and real with our faith and life

Living a personal relationship with Jesus where we communicate to Him in prayer and seek and trust his guidance for issues and direction in life.

Living a worshipful attitude towards God and in service to others, everyday, not just on Sundays. We value community development and justice.

Living in a way that reflects the values of diversity and inclusively, and cultural sensitivity.

Living in a way that invites, honours and cares for children and obeys Jesus’ command to: “Let the children come to Him”. We believe children can have a loving, growing, deepening relationship with Jesus from birth.

Living in a way that seeks to be financially transparent and accountable.

Living in a way that shows the value of church participation where:

We grow our faith in Jesus together

We serve God and other people

We encourage and support each other in faith and life

We share and celebrate communion and baptism
